🌙 London night buses

411 London routes run between 01:00 and 04:29 — more than the rest of the UK and Ireland put together. Only 66 of them are “N” routes; 59 run a full 24 hours under their ordinary daytime number.

394 of 411 run tonight.

Don't just look for an “N”

The N prefix is the most common way people get this wrong. Of the 411 London routes running in the small hours, 66 carry an N — the other 345 are ordinary numbers like the 24, the 43 and the 134 that simply never stop. If you search only for night routes you will walk past most of your options.

Frequently asked questions

Do London night buses run every night?

Most do. Unlike the rest of the country, where night service is usually Friday and Saturday only, the majority of London night routes run seven nights a week. Each route below shows the nights it actually runs.

What is the difference between an N bus and a 24-hour bus?

An “N” route is a night-only service that runs after the daytime route has finished, often on a slightly different line of route. A 24-hour route is the ordinary daytime route simply continuing through the night under the same number. Both get you home; the 24-hour ones are easier because the number does not change.

How much is a London night bus?

The same as any London bus: £1.75 with contactless or Oyster, and the Hopper fare means any further bus journeys started within an hour are free. There is no night surcharge.

Do night buses run when the Night Tube does not?

Yes. Night buses run every night of the week on most routes, while the Night Tube runs on Friday and Saturday nights on a handful of lines. On a Tuesday at 3am the bus is usually the only option.
