Privacy
Live Bus Times is built to need as little of your data as possible. There are no accounts, no sign-in and nothing to hand over — here's exactly what does and doesn't happen when you use the site.
What we don't collect
- No accounts, passwords or profiles — the site works without signing in.
- No personal details are asked for anywhere on the site.
- Saved stops and routes (the ★ button) live in your browser's local storage on your device. They never reach our servers and disappear if you clear your browser data.
- We don't sell or share data with data brokers or advertisers.
Analytics
To understand which pages, searches and features are useful, the site uses (or will use) two standard analytics tools:
- Google Analytics — measures page views, search terms typed into the site search, and general usage (approximate location by city, device type, browser). It sets cookies (e.g.
_ga) to tell returning visitors apart. See Google's privacy policy; you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. - Microsoft Clarity — records anonymised heat-maps and session replays (where people click and scroll) so we can fix confusing pages. Clarity masks typed text by default. See Microsoft's privacy statement.
Both tools receive your IP address as part of how the web works, but we don't see or store raw IP addresses ourselves. If you use an ad-blocker or tracking protection that blocks these scripts, the whole site still works normally.
Your location
- Near me — the find stops near you page asks your browser for your location, only after you grant permission. Your coordinates are used to answer that one request (which stops are within about a kilometre) and are not stored.
- Postcode search — full postcodes you search are geocoded through postcodes.io, a free open-data service. The postcode is the only thing sent, and we don't store it.
Hosting & server logs
The site runs on Cloudflare's network. Like virtually every website, standard technical logs (IP address, requested page, browser type) exist briefly for security and performance — see Cloudflare's privacy policy. Live departure data is fetched from official sources (the DfT Bus Open Data Service, Transport for London and operators' feeds) by our servers — your identity is never part of those requests.
Cookies
The only cookies on the site are the analytics cookies described above. There are no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking. Favourites use local storage, not cookies.
