How this is put together
Bus timetables have no concept of a university, and — unlike hospitals — neither do the stop names: barely a few hundred stops in the country mention a university, and most of those are hospitals or streets. So campus locations come from OpenStreetMap, matched against a list of 146 named institutions so that a lecture theatre tagged “School of Computing” does not become a page of its own. Every stop within walking distance of a campus building is then read out of the national stop register, and every route calling at those stops out of the operators' own published timetables. The number beside each university is its bus routes; 🎓 marks a campus with a university or student service and 🌙 one with a route running in the small hours. First and last times on each page are departures from the campus's own stops, not from the far end of the route.
Frequently asked questions
Which buses go to my university?
Pick the university below — each page lists every route serving the campus stops, which of them are university or campus services, the first and last bus on a weekday and a Sunday, night buses, and the places you can reach the campus from without changing.
What is a university or campus bus service?
A route run for the university or branded for students — a campus shuttle, a hall-to-lectures link, or an operator route signed for the university. 57 of the 260 campuses here have at least one. They are usually the most frequent way onto campus in term time, and the most likely to thin out in the vacation.
Do buses to university campuses run at night?
At 162 of the 260 campuses here, at least one route runs in the small hours — which matters for getting back to halls after a night out. Each page says which routes run overnight and on which nights; most night services are Friday and Saturday only.
Is there a student discount on the bus?
Almost always. Under-22s in Scotland travel free, under-22s in Wales get about a third off with myTravelPass, London students can get an 18+ Student Oyster photocard, and most English operators sell a term or year pass that beats paying the £3 single fare cap every day. Each university page links the operators running its routes.
